Lil Dee and the O’Jickey’s MKII

Written on October 6, 2009 – 8:03 pm | by Shawn |

So a friend of mine had an idea for her car this year. She kept it all on the down low. Work got done and her O’ Jickey’s car was born. With a mix of vinyl and magnets it makes for a fun car. Well before she strips the car back down to it’s solid white color. She asked me to take some photos of it. I recently got some gradient filters for my camera and thought what a perfect opportunity to play around.

Her car has come a long way from when she took it from her brother. With the help of many of her friends and family she brought her dream to reality. Sporting a Corrado interior and a 16v swap. this car is clean top to bottom. Bobbi (car’s name) is flossing on some Borbet wheels and Weitec coilover suspension.

The subtle changes are nice too. Shaved banana lights. Yellow fogs. Yellow inner high beams.

Air Affair 2009 at H2o International

Written on October 2, 2009 – 2:01 pm | by Shawn |

For the second year. Me and a few friends have planned an all air ride event called Air Affair. I have to say it was possibly the best event of the weekend for me and I went to a few.

This event is suppose to bring air ride enthusiasts together to talk about it and to be about it. Spread knowledge and tips to get the ultimate low for a Volkswagen or Audi. I do have to say that I think with the birth of this scene within a scene it has had the opportunity to grow and feed the modifying world of VAG cars.

We had help this year with sponsors and companies donating product. This is where I take the time to thank them and our location of Whiskers bar and Grill.

Mason Tech -  http://www.mason-tech.com/

Bagyard/Openroad tuning – http://www.openroadtuning.com/

Weakstyles – http://www.weakstyles.com/

Eurghetto – http://www.eurghetto.com/

snapRIOT – http://www.snapriot.com/

Air by Santi – http://www.airbysanti.com/

Stance Design – http://www.stancedesign.com/

Now the event did have is set backs. Lights being one of them. This limited the photographers that did show up. Light went away fast so much of the show was not shot. Which is a tough thing. The lights eventually came on but not may photos were taken once they did.

It was really great to see all of the participants grouping together and talking. Since most of them only ever get to talk through sites like vwvortex and eurghetto.  This year we thought we would add some fun for the people at the show and offer a low limbo contest for the cars. This was a blast. I was working the limbo with Andrew. So no photos from me. It was entertaining to watch people lay their cars out and drag them over the pavement. Ryan Maloy’s red Audi TT won this event. It is truely low. Beating out a EOS by almost an inch.

Another highlight this year was actually a car that was not on air Anthony brought our a MKIII jetta sporting all types of custom work. This car was on a hybrid suspension of springs and hydraulic lifter. He has put tons of man hours into building this car. If you have a chance you should read his build thread on vortex. Great read and great car.

Andrew and Andreas from Open road tuning and Bagyard. Also had their new “Bomber” air strut on display at the event and shortly after realeased the new product for consumers.

Last of all we always promote the mustache aspect of being at a bar called Whiskers. So this year we gave out an award for it. While there were several contenders for this award Matt Crooke of Mason-Tech took the cake with his masterpiece. While he wasn’t growing it for the event it is still amazing. Keep it going Matt!

All I can say is that this event has only improved over the year and that I hope Jason, Andrew and I can make it even more fun next year!!

PS

Some of us are still a little bent at whoever took the 100+ Air Affair stickers and the weakstyles tee shirts for prizes. I worked many hours on those stickers myself. Not impressed with that. I mean what the hell are you going to do with all of those stickers?

Dani VR6 MKIII GTI

Written on September 14, 2009 – 11:03 pm | by Shawn |

I have known Dani for many years and have talked with her many times about her car. I have also taken many photos of it.

Now she has made a change and I think for the better ! Her car used to have a MK3.5 Cabrio conversion on it and I for one loved the look. It needed a change though as she didn’t want to do the rear conversion. So she went ahead and redid the front end. Having done the cabrio. She felt the need to go back to more of a classic MKIII look.

With this came the Jetta from end conversion. She then went ahead and had a friend of hers shave the bumper. She wanted a more smoothed look so she also smoothed the rockers. She also went ahead and painted her roof back to white also. She had found a set of BBS RS’s on Craigs list, but unfortunately I bought them before she could. Sorry Dani!! So the hunt was on and she found another set in Washington. Then she had them powder coated a great shade of blue that really works well with her white paint.

Dani your car is a pleasure to look at and I love what you have done with it.

Now on with the pictures I guess.

Stache Bash PrePacific Waterlands Party.

Written on August 31, 2009 – 9:22 am | by Shawn |

Every year around this time there is a car show. Pacific Waterlands. It is a chance for our friends up north ( Washington and Canada ) to come down and hang out in our area! Chill have relax and get down with some fun.

So every year we come up with a theme for a party the weekend of the show. Last years party was on Friday and was a sports attire theme. It was good times. How do you beat last years theme. We thought of many things. Toga, pimps and hoes, and gangsters. Those are all good ideas, but we ( Austin, Brett, and myself) came up with a better one. Stache bash. The premise was that a mustache is required. Either fake or real!! Well Austin, Brett and I definitely took the real stache route. This was also a rule for the women. NO stache! No drink! No Entry!

Austin was his usual themed party watchdog. He and I went out and made sure that we had a supply of fake mustaches for the party.  He was the one making sure that the mustaches were on. While they all ended up in other place then the faces( forhead, pants, armpits, and tee shirts) They were a hit. They made for great photos!!

A few things were established though. One being that while they were flip cup rookies the guy from Canadialand were a force to be reckoned with. Using only 3 players to take on the 4 man team from AMERICA! Granted the 4 players for us were also rookies and also sucked at hand eye coordination. The next thing that we were made aware of is that we have some crap beer that has no alcohol. This is also coming from Canadialand.

I would like to thank everyone that came out for this even. Stage Awesome from canadialand. Chris Harper for not only his antics in the yards of the neighbors but for loosing his phone and well mostly cause he is Chris. The rest of the Washingtonians that made the trek to Oregon. Mostly I want to thank the drunk fuck that opened his house to us all and well didn’t walk around naked like he has in the past. Austin MOFO Staunton.

I am not even trying to think about next year yet.

Shawn Walsh.

Pacific Waterlands

Today was Pacific Waterlands. It was a great time. I unfortunately can’t share photos with you. I only took a couple this morning and they were rolling shots and not all to my standards.

This year I also choose to help the show. I judged a few things. It was fun. Talking about cars and hearing the excitment in peoples voices. Modding cars is something I have been doing for awhile. I have not been into it really for a few months. Procrastination is something that owned me :)

Anyways the show was the biggest yet. With many events for particpants. Burnout contest (which I entered), car bash, vanagon cram, drag races. swap areas, show and shine, and well of course the show. Great job to the staff that puts this on. Double J Motorsports for taking the time to keep this show alive. Also all of the people that pay to go to the event.

Thank you

Shawn

PS this is the only photo that turned out.

Today was the day we said good bye to my uncle. Seeing so many great memories in the faces and words of my family was truely a blessing. I got to see these photos of his life and his family. It was some what humbling. These people that I love and care for. Smiling. Eating a bunch of junk food. Cause if you knew my uncle you knew he was giant and kinda scary, but really just a big softy.

I will miss you “Tiny”.

You family and community will miss you.

I had planned on drinking away my sarrows tonight with some of my friends. I couldn’t do it. Instead I took the time to document it all with photos. That blog will be coming in the next few days.

Well time for bed.

Austin’s Meet the Parents BBQ August 22, 2009

Written on August 23, 2009 – 11:12 pm | by Shawn |

Austin gave all of his friends and roommate a chance to meet the two people that have been in his life since birth. He decided that he would throw a little bbq for this event. Sending out a Facebook invite to all his friends. From there it all fell into line.

With people starting to show up at 4:oo PM there was already bbq waiting. Austin can grill up some food. He has his own way of preparing brats the night before. Usually the burgers are the premade style that don’t compare to the brats but are still good.

As the night went on stories about his youth and his present life mixed well. It was good to hear that he was just like most kids. Trouble usually followed, but was always laughing about the stories. With us lending a few stories of our own from his short time here in the Pacific Northwest. Austin will never have a shortage of stories to tell his kids if he has them. Austin was lucky enough to plan this bbq with a couple of old dear friends from Atlanta in town on vacation. This made the experience that much better.

Thank you for opening your house to me and my sons.

Double J BBQ and Opening.

Written on August 10, 2009 – 4:00 pm | by Shawn |

Well it seems a local shop has moved and Reopened their doors. While I only had been to the previous establishment once. I can’t say I know what they upgraded from. I do know that the new location is clean and larger. Joey and Carrie ( owners ) run a well respected and well recommended shop.

There were raffle prizes from such companies as imprinted.com and Techtonics. DJM also threw in some t shirts. Some sweet eBay sticker finds. Joe brought out is custom cab-b-q. Which if some people do not know it is a MK! Cabriolet with a custom BBQ built into where the folding top would usually go. So now its a roadster with a grill.

There was many different styles of cars there. Colin brought out his MKII Gti with a 1.8T swap. Joe had his caddy truck with his pink gotti’s. Aaron had his new motor on display with lots of Nubworks welding all over its custom pieces. Mario’s MKIV R32 turbo with a jetta front was in attendance also. David’s Red MKIV was looking super clean on his new shoes. There was a sweet rally car there with mud and looked fresh from the course.

Over all I had a great time. The food was great and DJM threw a great BBQ.

Thank you to all who put this together.
